Product & Competitors Audit

Product & Competitors Audit

SkinClub had millions of monthly visitors, but too few of them were sticking around, joining tournaments, or claiming giveaways. Meanwhile, competitors were quietly winning over the same audience. We ran a full competitive audit across the CS skin marketplace space, uncovered why users were slipping away, and mapped out a navigation redesign built to fix it.

Who We Benchmarked Against

To understand where SkinClub was losing ground, we selected three competitors - each representing a different strength in the market:

Key-Drop - the #1 Google search result in the category, backed by the strongest free content and SEO strategy.
Hellcase - featured in AI search overviews, with one of the most developed reward systems in the space.
CSGORoll - the market leader by Similarweb affinity, with the highest overall audience overlap.

This gave us a well-rounded view of the competitive landscape covering search visibility, user retention mechanics, and overall market dominance, so every insight was benchmarked against real, proven strengths, not assumptions.

What We Audited

For SkinClub and each competitor, we reviewed the core areas that shape user engagement and retention: Homepage, Daily Case, Giveaways, Missions, Promo Code Pop-ups, Payment Pages

For SkinClub and each competitor, we reviewed the core areas that shape user engagement and retention: Homepage, Daily Case, Giveaways, Missions, Promo Code Pop-ups, Payment Pages

For every section, we asked the same three questions:

What they do - how the feature is implemented and presented to the user.

What works - the elements driving engagement, trust, or conversion.

What doesn't work - the friction points, confusion, or missed opportunities.

Key insight - the one takeaway that shaped our hypotheses and redesign direction.

This consistent framework let us compare SkinClub and its competitors side-by-side, page by page, instead of relying on general impressions.

From Insights to Hypotheses

Combining the competitive audit with SkinClub's own user flow analysis, four clear hypotheses emerged․ Each pointing to a specific, testable change that could improve engagement and retention. Each hypothesis follows the same structure: what we believe is happening, what we'd change, and what result we expect to see.

From Hypotheses to Wireframes

Based on the full research and the hypotheses that came out of it, our team translated these insights into concrete UX solutions with a particular focus on navigation. The goal was simple: make free content, tournaments, and giveaways impossible to miss, so users spend less time searching and more time engaged on the platform.
